5 BEST HOLLYWOOD ENGLISH FILMS OF 2018:

The superhero films are the commercial winner worldwide, some experimental genre proved to be promising, some created major disappointment, without any long overture let's find 5 jewels of 2018.

1. ANNIHILATION
Directed by Alex Gerland, Annihilation is the best of 2018 and probably one of the best of its genre. This adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer's terrific novel is a piece of art. Stunning visual, weird setting, mysterious overtone, brilliant performances made it one of its kind. A magnum opus which shows the tendency of human self destruction. Classic! 

2. A SIMPLE FAVOR
A SIMPLE FAVOR is a twisted new noir thriller with black comedy overtones. A stylist, funny, sexy, entertaining piece with exciting franco-pop music everywhere. Crazy!

3. SORRY TO BOTHER YOU
An ironical, sarcastic, hilarious, magic realism which portraits the truths of telemarketing uniquely & brilliantly. Cult!

4. THE MERCY
Based on the true story of the disastrous attempt by the amateur sailor Donald Crowhurst to complete the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race in 1968 and his subsequent attempts to cover up his failure, this James Marsh directorial is a melancholic sea journey with heart wrenching score of late Jóhann Jóhannsson.

5. MUTE
Duncan Jones' MUTE is a visually mesmerizing, neonish thriller which is equally heart wrenching & gripping, one of the better films of 2018

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE:

ISLE OF DOGS
Humorous, lovely, deep & moving - this animated film is a brave attempt which is also superbly entertaining. Kudos to Wes Anderson. 

HONORABLE MENTIONS: The gorgeous READY PLAYER ONE, JURASSIC WORLD FALLEN KINGDOM, THE TITAN was also decent.

I have no hesitation to say that I failed to digest Black Panther, Hereditary & Mandy, don't know why. Hope the 2019 will bring some more masterpieces. And yes, HAPPY NEW YEAR !!

    Annihilation I have seen, difficult film, the rest haven't. And yes ,why Black Panther got so many nominations is difficult to say ,I found it ordinary.
