On the other hand, there are a lot of well researched books, which are so accurate that failed to entertain. Truly, a well researched but page turner historical fiction is rare, very rare. The Serpent and the Eagle is one of them! Honestly, I had hardly any knowledge about the 'Mexico conquest by Spain event' - the topic upon which this work is based. So I was little afraid that it might not impress me. But my fear was washed away by the brilliance of Edward Rickford's writing. The mammoth research is evident. Every scenes are in details & every details are top notch. Still he keeps the plot so much interesting. The writing will catch your attention as soon as you progress. It flows like silk.
